opening slide with web object closes the course

Nov 16, 2018

Hi,

I'm having trouble with a web object that links to the following website:

https://www.tiki-toki.com/timeline/entry/276209/Asbestos-over-Time/#vars!date=3150_BC-01-01_00:00:00!

When I test the link, it works as expected but when I publish the course and upload it to SCORM cloud, the course closes itself as soon as I go to the slide that contains the web object.

It works if I use the "Display in a new browser window" option, but I want to use the "Display in slide" option.

If I use a different URL (like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page) with the "Display in slide" option, then it works just fine.

I've also tried the address without the URL parameters (https://www.tiki-toki.com/timeline/entry/276209/Asbestos-over-Time/), with no difference.

I'm using Storyline 360, but I get the same problem with Storyline 2.

Has anyone come across this before, or could shed some light on this?

Thanks

Duncan

Hi Duncan!  I'm going to share this web object with my team so we can understand why the course is automatically closing.  I added it to my own file and saw the same behavior.  I wonder if the way that site displays with the "lightbox" effect along the timeline has anything to do with it.

Hi there, Duncan!  Just to close the loop in this conversation, Renson discovered that the platform where your web object is hosted provides a certain embed code that needs to be used:

They offer Web design and services similar to that of popular Web hosting companies like Hostgator.com and Godaddy.com.

According to http://www.tiki-toki.com/faqs/#;

==

"Embedding is only available with our Bronze, Silver and Teacher accounts." -

*If they aren't subscribed to any of these accounts, they're likely to experience issues embedding the link.

*If they are, they'll need to make sure that they're using the correct embed link following these instructions:

1. Open the 'Embed' panel for your timeline by clicking on the 'embed' option. This can be found under the admin panel on your timeline page when you are logged in.

2. In the panel that pops up, enter the width and height that you want for the embedded timeline. You may want to click the 'Preview' button to check that the timeline works at the size you have chosen.

3. You should now copy the code in the 'Embed' box and paste it into your website or blog. Please note that the 'Timeline status' setting for your timeline must be set to 'public' for your embedded timeline to work (see 'Settings' -> 'Advanced settings').

I hope that helps!
