Page with variables hanging

Apr 30, 2015

Hi, I've created a unit in Storyline 2. Some of the pages include variables (inputting text that is used later in the unit). The content also uses text that reads from right to left.

Everything works fine in preview and when published to CD. However, when published to SCORM and played, whenever I get to the page with a variable the unit just hangs and the only option is to close the window.

Does anyone have any ideas on why this might be happening and/or how I could fix it?

Many thanks.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for sharing your project file. I uploaded here to SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for testing SCORM output. I wasn't able to get to the second slide even, as clicking the next button seems to freeze it on that slide. But I was able to upload here to my Articulate Online account where it behaved normally.  Can you test those two out for us and let me know what you see and then we'll keep investigating?

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your reply. I've tried the file in SCORM Cloud and in the Articulate Online account (yours and mine - Articulate Online account ). I've experienced the same as you. In SCORM Cloud I couldn't get to the second slide but it behaved normally in Articulate Online. I have also tried it in our LMS and get the same behaviour as in SCORM Cloud, i.e. can't get to the second slide and everything freezes.

Hi Ashley, it seems to happen on every slide requiring text entry in Arabic. However, I have just tried the following:

Converted all text to English but left it as read right to left. Tested in SCORM Cloud (hangs as before) and Articulate Online (allows text entry on slide 2 but does not display the text entered on slides 3-5)

Converted all text to English and read left to right. Tested in SCORM Cloud (works fine) and Articulate Online (works fine)

Kept text in Arabic but changed to be read left to right and it all works fine (other than the Arabic text is not useable) - Tested in SCORM Cloud (works fine) and Articulate Online (works fine)

So, it seems it could be something to do with text being read from right to left? I'm new to this so please forgive my ignorance, but might this mean that the software tries to read the variable name from right to left?

Hi Jason,

This was actually really great information to have and thanks for going through all those steps. I'm going to continue to take a look and share it with our Quality Assurance team for review.  Do you happen to have that sample file still? I can see your RTL text, but I don't have that as a keyboard input to set it up on my own new files?
