Pause layer not working on second viewing of slides
Jul 31, 2013
I've created a slide that has a screen recording. To pause the recording at several spots so that I can narrate, I have added layers that pause the base layer and that contain my audio. They work fine the first time. However, when I click previous and try to return to the slide, the layers no longer pause the base layer.
I tried all three (initial state, saved state, and automatic) on both the pause layers and the base layer. Nothing seems to work.
I'd be glad to share the file if anyone could help.
Before you ask, I know it would be easier to record the screen capture in audio together or time the recording, but I have an issue where I can only record audio one day a week and my internal client makes constant script changes so this is the process I have come up with.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Dustin, and welcome to the Heroes community!
If you could post that particular slide, we'd be more than happy to take a look and help you problem solve.

Mike,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I keep getting a 404 error when I try to upload. I think the file size is too big (75 MB) due to the screen recordings. Is there any other way to share?
Dustin
Mike,
I copied a few of the video slides from the original file. It's still having the issue. Thanks.
Dustin,
Do you happen to have a DropBox (or similar) account that you could load it to and drop me the link? Or, if that's a no go, please submit a support case and ask them to send me the file? http://www.articulate.com/support/contact/submit.php
Thanks,
Mike
Cool, I'll take a look.
Dustin,
I'm not sure why this is the case (I'll report it to the development team), but it seems as if the slide isn't getting a hard reset when you return to it.
I tried this and it seemed to fix the issue:
On each of your slides, add a slide level trigger that says, jump to slide (slide #) when user clicks the Previous button.
Let me know if this fixes it. In the meantime, I'll submit it to our dev team.
I've attached your original file with the added trigger on Slide 3.
Thanks!
Mike
Mike,
I tried it on your example file and on my original, and that workaround doesn't work. The base layer still plays. Any other ideas? Is there a way to force a slide to reset via a trigger?
Thanks.
Dustin,
Odd, because it works on my end when I add that trigger in. I'm not sure why it wouldn't on your end also.
To answer your question, the base layer properties to have the slide reset should be working (in essence, that is the trigger). If you would, could you please submit a support case? It's possible that we're both missing something, and maybe our support team can get to the bottom of it! http://www.articulate.com/support/contact/submit.php

In case anyone is curious. The workaround that fixed the issue was to enable the Hide other Slide Layers options in Layers options menu. I'm not sure why it wasn't working without that option, but it is working fine now with it...
Thanks for the update Dustin!
