Without looking at the .story file, my initial suggestion would be to add a little bit of space before and after the text by making the textbox larger. This issue might be related to the padding of the font used.
If that doesn't work, would you feel comfortable sharing your .story file here? I'd be happy to take a look.
The file is attached... you are looking for the layer which contains 'pubs' - the client prefers the markers to the pins on other layers - but we haven't been able to get them to work properly....
