"Pick One" lets me pick many...

May 11, 2021

Greetings!

I have set up a couple of Pick One questions in a class. When previewing, I'm able to pick several answers, or at least that's what it looks like because several answers change state (have a highlight) when selected.  Shouldn't I only be allowed to pick ONE answer?  It seems like it'd be confusing to a learner, to be able to pick several choices (as indicated by state change) when they're asked to pick only one.

Thanks,

Karen W.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you're seeing with your Pick One question.

I'm unable to replicate the behavior. I've attached a sample file.

I want to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening with your permission. You can share it publicly here or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

Hi Leslie,

I tried your example and that works fine. I'll upload my file through the link you provided. Another WEIRD thing happened - to create this file with two slides, I saved my original project under a new name and deleted everything except these two slides.  In the original file, both are still "Pick One" questions (I'm going by the trigger on the base later which says "Submit Pick One when user clicks Submit"), but in the new file, one of them transformed itself into a Pick Many without me doing anything to change it to a Pick Many. I'm baffled as to how that could've happened.

Thanks,

Karen

I'm replying here as well, in case anyone else has the same problem and wants to know the solution that Leslie provided.  She suggested right-clicking on each object that the learner is supposed to choose from, and selecting Button Set, then Button Set 1 in the dropdown menu that appears.  (When right-clicking, the object should have a solid line border, not dashed, to have Button Set appear in that right-click menu.)  That fixed the problem and now when I preview the Pick One quiz questions, only one answer option is in highlighted/selected state at a time (so it doesn't look like it's possible to pick multiple answers).

Thank you!

I have followed this and it has worked, however, I am still able to click off an answer and have nothing selected. I would like it to be so once the first answer is selected, from there on, one answer will always be selected, but you can still click different ones until you've made your final choice. How do I do this?

Hello Lisa,

Happy to help out!

Attached is a project file containing two pick-one slides. In both slides, I am unable to click off an answer after selecting the first one, which means there is something different with this test file and your project file.

Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at how it is setup? We'll delete it when we're done testing!
