Pictures changing size in preview

Apr 15, 2013

Hi,

I am a beginner with storyline and have come across a problem.

I have put some photo on various storyline slides and then add various other dimensions.  When I click on 'preview - this slide', the picture is a completely different size.  When I go out of preview, and back to normal view, the picture is the correct size again.

This is happening with a number of different pictures throughout the file.

I have tried grouping the picture with the relevant labels (if it is a labelled diagram) to see if the labels shrink as well, and they don't only the picture.

Any ideas or advice on how to stop this from happening?

Thanks.

Laura

Hi Laura, welcome to the community!

Sounds like it could be a DPI issue. Storyline will function as expected when Windows is set to 96 DPI (dots per inch).

Storyline doesn't currently support 120 DPI. If your system is set to 120 DPI, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:

*  Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.

*  Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.

*  Zoomed images don't work as expected.

*  Font sizes are incorrect after using the translation features.

Here's how you can switch to 96 DPI. Let us know if that helps...

Hi Peter,

Thank you for replying so quickly.  I had a look at the DPI on my computer like you said, and it was set at 96 DPI.  But I think I have worked out what the problem is.  The images that I was using were very big (not sure of the technical language or way of saying it, but they were such high quality/resolution that some of them, if printed out in full size, would almost be as big as a small child!!)  So I resized them in a different program and then put them in storyline. This seems to have fixed the problem.  Maybe the program couldn't cope with such big images?

Thanks again,

Laura

Glad to hear you found the solution, Laura Thanks for sharing!

The maximum size for images in Storyline is 2048 pixels x 2048 pixels. A very large image will initially be scaled down to fit within the slide dimensions that you chose for your project. However, you can reset it to its original size using this technique.
Also, if you have an image that is larger than 2048 pixels x 2048 pixels and you'd like to retain its original size and sharpness in Storyline, refer to the article above for recommendations.
Hope that helps. Good luck with the project!
