Play Button in Timeline not working

Nov 02, 2014

Folks,

Just upgraded to ST2, I'm noticing that the little play button on the timeline is not working in the Slide Master layers. In ST1 it was a bit buggy, but it did work most of the time. I'm finding now that it's just not working.

Could there be a problem in the software, are audio files corrupted in the slide masters upon upgrade or is anyone else having this same problem.

Thanks,

Thanks Steve,

I have noticed that when previewing the file, the slide layers will work when "replaying" a slide but not on first view. Not sure way this is. Unfortunately, I'm now stuck. If the layers won't work, I can't upload files because without the layers the courses won't progress correctly. I need to complete a file correction but I can't use ST1 as it looks as if all my files were updated (not just the ones I opened and selected update). I am now also worried about other bugs I'm not aware of that could destabilize my courses when I upload to my LMS.

Is there a way I can view the Articulate response to your bug submission. I need to know when it's fixed cause I'm dead in the water till it is.

Hi Vaughan,

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty you've run into, and it looks like Steve may have you covered in terms of the layer element - although if not, please let us know a bit more about what is happening.

In regards to your files, all of the icons of the files may have changed appearance as SL2 would now be the default program for .story files. But if you right click on any of them you could choose to open a file in SL1 (that's what I do on my system). When you upgrade files to SL2, which will only occur when opening the .story file you'll also see a message that your current SL1 file will be backed up. That new file will have the same file name plus, SL1Backup appending to it.

Steve, if you can share the case/bug number that you filed, I can look into it to be able to update this thread as well.

Thanks Steve,

Now that I think of this a bit more, I do not believe the Play button actually worked on layers in SL1 either. It was the first of your pictures that I'm refereeing to. I tried to use the layer playback to try and diagnose my other issue (Master Slide Layers not performing correctly in SL2).

Ashley,

Thanks for your response. I actually don't have the option for "Open With" then selecting SL1 (only SL2 appears). After some farting around I do see that if I open SL1 first then navigate to open these files they will open in SL1. Not sure why the Open With is not working properly. Even when I select browse and navigate to the SL1.exe they are still not opening. I'm assuming that's something on my end with Win7-Pro. In any case, its not a big deal since I can open SL1 and open them from there.

Hey, Vaughan. I don't have the "open with SL1" option either. I think I could make it appear, by assigning it in Windows to the SL1.exe file. BUT, at some point during the Beta I thought I'd remembered that was causing difficulties for some users. So, I go the old-fashioned way, opening SL1 and browsing my way to opening a file.

On my windows 8.1 system, I can choose open with and I see an option to "change default program" and it then opens up a new window with the options of SL1 or SL2 - my default is SL2, so I just unselect the checkbox to change the default - and then choose SL1. You can also do it by opening directly in Storyline 1 - so whichever way works! :-)

Tx, Ashley. Not what I see on Windows 7. If I click on "Choose default program" I still only see SL2 (and for some reason Firefox?). I also have an option to "Try other programs," at which point I see Adobe Reader, IrfanView, Office 2010, Snagit, Notepad, and a few assorted other programs (even Wordpad!), but no SL1. I can of course browse to SL1, but at that point it's getting a bit unwieldy!

Again, I'm pretty sure I CAN change the SL1.exe file to associate with SL1 (have done that sort of thing in the past with other programs), but am reluctant to do so based on earlier reports.

I believe I've seen others, besides Vaughan, post that they're not seeing SL1 as an "open with" option ... or maybe I'm "misremembering"
