I noticed today that all of my courses now have the 'play' button on the first slide with the latest update. It only used to be there if there was audio or video. The courses I'm trying do not have audio or video. Is this a bug? I've attached a screenshot.
Yes, I read that article in 2018. As I mentioned, this is happening on the first slide and they do not have multimedia after I did the Nov 28 2023 update.
I just rolled back to the Nov 7th update, and the play button does not appear.
I tried publishing some basic courses that didn't have any audio or video in the beginning of the course and I can confirm that they launched normally without a play button at the start. Could you check to see if you have added background audio to your course? Having background audio will also cause the play button to appear, even if no visible audio or video files are present in the first slide.
You can also check the Media Library to spot any media files that could be causing the play button to appear.
If your course is confirmed to not have media files on the very first slide, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!
I was about to post this in the forum to query until I've seen your post, Ryan. I'm seeing the same behaviour and can confirm that this is happening for any SL file even without a media on the first slide. I might roll it back to the previous version.
Jose, I wonder if this is a bug that needs fixing?
Thanks so much for reaching out about this. Are you comfortable sharing your file with us or a screen recording of what you see? I want to take a closer look and share it with our team. You can upload it here or privately in a support case, and we'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete.
Our development team is tracking a known bug in Storyline 360 that causes:
Play button shows even if there is no media file on the first slide and there is closed caption
If you're comfortable sharing your project file, I'd be happy to test the behavior and confirm that you are being affected by the same issue. Feel free to upload a copy here in the discussion or privately through a support case.
Thanks for your response. I've reverted back to the previous version of SL for now. One of the members of my team also reached out to Articulate and he was advised it's a known bug, so I guess we'll wait for the fix before we update to the new version.
I've included you in the bug report so you can be notified as soon as a fix is in place. I can confirm rolling back to a previous version of Storyline is a valid workaround while we work to resolve this issue.
Thank you for your patience. Sorry if this has been slowing you down!
I am happy to confirm Erjen's comments that Storyline 360 (Build 3.83.31444.0) includes the fix for the bug where a play button shows even if there is no media file on the first slide and there is a closed caption file.
All you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app to take advantage of the newest bug fixes and features!

It may be part of the upgrade SL had. Here's the articles about it: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/what-we-re-doing-to-help-you-update-your-courses-for-browser-auto-play-settings

I did confirm that I don't have any media, including background audio on the first slide. I submitted a support case and referenced this post.

I too have the same issue since the last update. The storyline files were working as expected until the update today. Please fix this ASAP.
Hi Sairaam!
Sorry to hear you've also run into this issue!

How can I be notified when this bug is fixed? I have had to roll back storyline versions to mitigate as well.
It's probably because you use closed captioning in your presentation. Not that we should be doing the debugging... But I ran into the same issue.
https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/play-button-at-start-of-course-because-of-closed-captioning
If you delete the captions, the play button on the first screen is gone. Not what you want to do of course, so reverting is the only option for now...
I can also confirm this observation: The play button appears even though there is no Audio or Video on the first Slide (or in the Masterslide).
We also realized that with the last Storyline-Version it's working properly so we will use that one until this bug is fixed.
Thank you Erjen for the info babout the closed captioning - it's not an option for us so we'll stick to the older version for now :)
