playing Storyline Web content offline on an Android device

Nov 01, 2012

This topic has already been covered in topic http://community.articulate.com/forums/t/15736.aspx, but the answer provided does not work for me, whatever the content I try to play.

For instance, one of my Storyline projects is basically a table of content from which I can launch different screen captures.

I have published this project as Web content and copy the generated folder on the SD card of a Sony Xperia Arc smartphone and Archos 101 G9 tablet.

I have installed ES Explorer on both devices so I can browse to find the story.html file. When I click on it, I can either launch the file with HTML Viewer or Dolphin browser.

  • With HTML Viewer, I get an error message "unable to load web page at content://...".
  • With Dolphin Browser, the content launches, the table of content works, I can launch a screen capture, but I only can hear the audio part of the video, the video itself is not displayed.

So I made some additional testings. I installed KWS on both devices. It is a HTTP Web server for Android.

When I launch the content though the Web server, it works fine.

So, does it mean that the HTML5 code which is generated may use some HTTP calls which are not supported when using URL based on Android local file system, such as content:// and supported when URL use standard http://.

I don't want my users to have to install a Web server on their Android device, as it is not a user friendly operation.

So, how is it possible to play Storyline Web content offline, when stored on the SD card of an Android device?

I am also interested in this topic... some functions simply seem to break when trying to view HTML5 content in the Dolphin browser.

Hi Kenji,

Storyline content may work on some Android devices. However, Articulate does not officially support Android devices or browsers. Click here to review the system requirements for authoring and viewing Storyline content.

If you'd like to see official support for a particular mobile device, we welcome your feature requests.

Also, you'll see a list of the viewing requirements (browsers, flash versions, etc.) at the bottom of this article.
