Please fix the ability to print results on smartphones
Apr 16, 2020
Hello everyone, I have been on this forum before about a year ago with this problem, and I was told you guys would fix the smartphone not printing either to a printer or as a PDF. This is crucial for our business, especially now with the virus epidemic. Our company provides photographic lineups for law enforcement to be able to administer a lineup remotely, so no contact is made. As of this point, the lineup cannot be done on a smartphone because of this problem. We are being forced to look at other programs because of this one thing that does not seem to be getting fixed. A screen shot is not a good option. Developers, if you want to see an example of the process, please click on the link below. Make sure you are using a smartphone and try to print it as a PDF at the end of the confirmation. You will see either a blank screen or it tells you to rotate your phone. Works great on a computer or laptop.

Anybody...?
Hi Vinnie!
I'm happy to help! I tested a course out on my end and didn't run into any snags printing the results.
Here are the specs!
I built a quiz in Storyline 360, and published the course for LMS. Uploaded the course to a server and opened the like on my iPhone 6s. After completing the quiz, I clicked "Print Results" on the Results Slide. My results opened in a new tab and I was able to use the built-in iOS features and wifi to print the results.
Would you mind sharing a screen recording of what you're noticing on your end? If you have a sample file, I'm happy to test that on my end too!
Hope this helps, Vinnie!
Hi Lauren, thanks so much for getting back with me!
Can you try the link I provided in the original post? If you do, let me know if you can print to PDF on your phone, after you select your subject, (you have to go through all the subjects). Maybe I'm doing something wrong on my end. I had to use a script, (window.print()) to get to the print options. If there is another way, please let me know. I'm using Storyline 3. The option to print doesn't come up on my end, it just says please rotate phone, or is just blank, I attached a screenshot. Thanks again!
Hi Vinnie,
Thanks for sharing the screenshot. That looks like a more custom set-up.
So, you are getting the option to print.
I do not have an AirPrint Printer available to me to further test.
With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening with the rotation requirement. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.
Hey Leslie, you cannot select a printer or the PDF option, and nothing happens. The screen is just left either blank or "please rotate screen" with no options to do anything.
Also I uploaded the template to you, thanks again!
Thanks, Vinnie.
I'm taking a look and will reply to you via e-mail from your support case.
Leslie you have been great! but I feel like everyone needs to know that this problem will never get fixed. This problem was brought to this forum a few years back, and I cant believe it is still an issue. Here's the email I received:
Hi Vinnie,
I have finished testing your .story file and I have reproduced it in a new file as well. I have logged this as a potential software bug and there is no workaround. I am so sorry that you came across this issue.

I will definitely keep track of this case and make sure to send you an update once there is a fix.

Thanks, Vinnie.
I'm glad that Hazel was able to track down this issue for you. I'll include your forum threads in the report as well.
Hi Leslie, with all due respect, the issue was not tracked down. I was told basically it will not be fixed anytime soon or only if there are enough complaints about it...that's sad.
Hello Vinnie.
The "window.print();" issue discussed in this thread has been resolved in the latest release of Storyline 3 and Storyline 360.
