Storyline's initial release has really bare-bones animation. I think they wanted to get a lot of the other Storyline awesomeness right first. I would place a bet that they will add more animations in the next release. Storyline's animations include:
Fade In
Grow
Fly In
Spin
Spin & Grow
What some people are doing is building the animation sequence they want in PPT, and exporting it as a video. Then they add the video to the Storyline file. Others are weaving their magic using layers, and states, and existing animations of course.
If the ppt to video idea does not work for what you want to do, tell us what you are trying to accomplish to see if anyone has any ideas. I'm always pleasantly surprised at the creativity and resourcefulness of this community!
