Preserving and unpreserving masters

Please explain how to use the preserve feature of slide and feedback masters. I understand that preserve keeps a master and its layouts in the .story file in case you want to use it in the future.
After a master has been preserved, how do you unpreserve it so you can use it? There was nothing to click to unpreserve it -- right-clickngi on the master slide did not have an unpreserve option, the Preserve button didn't do anything when clicked on again. In that test, the preserved master remained after the Preserve button was clicked and in another test .story file, the master and all its layouts disappeared after the Preserve button was clicked.

Playing with Masters is tricky, and sometimes works best if you close SL, re-open it and go directly to Masters without doing anything else.
To delete a preserved master, click on the pushpin to select it, wait a couple of seconds for it to become all selected, right click, and you should be able to click on the preserve option. If it is not being used, you will be offered the opportunity to delete it. The key is doing it at the beginning of a session, not the end, and waiting after you click it before right-clicking it.
Hi John,
I'd back up Walt's suggestion and I'd also point to this tutorial on ways in which you can work with the slide masters.
Thanks Walt and Ashley.
Ashley, I did read the tutorial first (those tutorials are excellent), but Walt's reply was what's needed.
Would you please also respond to my related post: Specifying which master for new slides to use as the default when you have multiple masters.?
Thank you,
John
Certainly John - an apologies that we didn't get to it on Friday.
Thanks for replying to my other post, and no need to apologize, but your politeness is appreciated.
