Problem with Articulate player for ipad

Dec 19, 2014

Hi,

I have the following problem. In my ipad I have the Articulate player where I had several examples I downloaded or created over a period of more than a year. This morning I accessed one of those examples and it was working fine. Then I tried a different one and I got the message 'one or more file is missing'. After that when I access the player I get the message 'No content'. I turned the ipad off and on again - no luck! This is almost a disaster (but also it could mean that the player is not reliable(?))

When I check the storage details in my ipad I get 'Articulate'-->290MB :  App Size: 13.2 MB and 'Documents and Data: 277MB'. Does this mean that my files are still there? What could I do to recover them? Please help! Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Vassiliki

Hi Vassiliki,

I'm sorry to hear about this behavior - if you're seeing the no content error message, it would appear that the files are no longer in the mobile player. As far as the data allotments you mentioned - I don't know how big your files are to say if they're still there or not. Is it possible that the content was removed from your LMS or web server? Can you try accessing the URLs again and see if they open in mobile safari or the app?

Hi Ashley,

Many thanks for your reply. I'm afraid it does not solve my problem. I do not use an LMS. I had all my files in offsite mode. They are still on my server. It is the simplest-simple scheme I could use: I upload the .story files in my server and then download them in my ipad and make them 'offsite'. It is just my server and ipad - nothing else. It is a big disaster for me given that I downloaded all these files over a period of a year (or more). Even worst, at some point I want to sell apps I create with storyline. If the player is not 'reliable' how could I recommend this to my clients? Unfortunately the alternative HTML5 version it is even worst for ipads (I test all the time the latest version and still it does not work well in ipads). Finally, my data should be there - or at least some of them - (I assume this from the 'data storage') but how can I access them?

Any help is a saver!

Is it possible to reinstall the player without deleting the previous version? When I try to delete the version I have in my ipad I get the message that 'Deleting 'Articulate' will also delete all of its data' - something that I try to avoid (I really loose a lot of work that is almost impossible to find again). Is it possible to reinstall a previous version. Please give me some help.

Hi Vassiliki,

First off my apologies for the delay, as we don't work in the forums over the weekend and I was off on Monday.

I don't believe there is a way to reinstall the player without it overriding the previous version but when I have done updates to the mobile player app, the content that I had previously downloaded remained intact.

I've searched through previous forum threads and any open bug reports to see if I could find a similar issue of the content disappearing and I can't find anything that sounds similar to offer a solution. I do know of a way to bulk import content into the Mobile Player so that you could get the courses back there quickly.

In regards to creating and selling stand alone applications for the iPad, I know a few users who have created their own "apps" using Storyline, but those are not sitting within the mobile player generally - so I'm unsure what you're referring to in that element.
