Problems with ATI graphics cards?

Nov 22, 2013

Has anyone come across issues with playing video from web published content on laptops with ATI graphics cards? Rather specific I know, however it works fine on my Nvidia.

It seems to be a two click way of creating a blue screen of death (Windows 7, different drivers have been tried)

Thanks Adrian

Hi Adrian:

I have laptops with ATI Graphics cards and have not had this issue.

Is this issue on the Flash output or the HTML5 output?

Is this issue when you view on the Laptop screen only?

Do you have extension monitors attached?

Are you duplicating the desktop, stretching the desktop?

What ATI card model is installed?

What operating System are you using?

What version of the OS are you using?

At you using the ATI card installed in a docking station?

At you using the NVidia card installed in a docking station?

Unless you are using a docking station,I'm certain you are testing the NVidia card in a different computer since laptop video cards are part of the motherboard in a laptop, so it cannot be a direct comparison and can lead to confusion.

If you have tried different driver versions, and found consistent results, I recommend you test different ATI settings.

Usually the Blue Screen of death is associated with some driver trying to write to a memory location that is already in use or does not exist. It does sound like the driver is the issue.

I have had cases where flash was not playing well with various video cards (laptop and desktop) as well as cases where I had to install 3 year old drivers for a video card (in Windows 7) because any newer driver would not work properly or not allow me to configure it correctly.

If you are using Windows, look at the system logs, or have your IT look at them (specifically Dr. Watson reports) and research the ERROR numbers on the internet looking for that error against that specific video card.

Finally, check the BIOS settings for the video cards to ensure you have the correct amount of memory set for that card.

I hope all this helps.
