Project Custom Fonts - How to Change Font Color
Jul 15, 2013
Is there a quick way to change the default font color to being black? When I add a custom font to a custom design theme, there is no color choice in that dialog. I am thinking the only way to do so is in the first two colors (background dark or background light) of my custom color scheme). Is there a way when recording a screencast (step by step in view mode) that I can get the text box font and all other fonts I apply later to shapes, to be "black"??
I have figured out how to change the default shape to being caption 1 callout with pointer, and by changing the Color Fill Accent 1 to be the first caption's base color, so that when we record, it comes over with the new color as being the system generated caption's color. I just haven't figured out a way to make the default font set to always be "black". Thanks for any insight as this cannot be handled by modifying any of the layouts in the slide master.

Hi Donna,
This threw me for a loop as well, until I realized the font color/style was being controlled by the Master Slides. So, as you create Master Slides, with Title Placeholders, the font colors in your Design panel will change to match the colors and style selected in the Master Slides.
Understand, but what can you do if you want to have the system-generated captions that are generated by recording a screencast (a step by step view mode process) to be in one color, say black? I have figured out how to make the caption the default shape and a default color (SL seems to use the Color Fill, Accent 1) color to fill all system-generated captions, but how can you add captions to a slide master for a screencast?
Does this make sense?
I was able to make the default font color black by creating a new theme color, and switching the first two colors (Text/Background - Dark 1 and Light 1).
It worked with screen recording captions as well as text in new shapes.
Might work?
My apologies Donna, I didn't read your question carefully the first time.
I played around with this for a few minutes, and cannot find a good solution. I think the best way to do it may be to use the format painter... which would be tedious. Hopefully someone else will have a better option.
Matthew,
You are right. If you switch them out you can get the caption and text box font to be 'black'. The only issue then becomes that the background also changes to the same color as the text in the recorded screencast. I will have to make this simple request a formal one for another SL release.
Yes, Julia, using the format painter works fine as it changes the font color and removes the default font shadow. At least this is faster than selecting all text and clicking on the home tab to find the S (shadow) option and have to toggle it off!
Thank you both!
P.S. Do either of you know if Storyline allows you to get to the actual code or html area like RoboHelp does? That is another answer if we knew how to do so.
Hi Donna,
It sounds like you've got a work around in place, but if you'd like to submit a formal feature request you can do so here.
In regards to your last question about getting to the actual code that is not something you can currently do.
Please let us know if you need anything else!
Thanks Ashley. I really love Articulate's forums and tutorials the best, much better than other companies. I don't want to offend, so I will say no more about the detail and video clips I have been using to teach myself how to record step by step screencasts. I am most happy with what I have done in the last three weeks coming from a total newbie.
Hi Donna,
Glad you're enjoying it and that it's working for (most) of your needs. If there is everything anything else we can help you with, please don't hesitate to let us know either here in the forums or as a feature request. We are always looking for ways to improve our user's experience!
