Publish to DVD - jump to file does not work

Aug 27, 2014

Hi,

I published a course to a DVD as the users will not have internet access. I have added an excel file to the DVD (in the main folder with story.exe) and it is linked to a button with "Jump to URL/file".

However, when I insert the actual DVD and take the course, the link to the excel file no longer works. All that happens is that Internet Explorer opens and then crashes due to an error.

The link works when I publish to Web, with the file being opened in Mircosoft excel. (it works in both Chrome and IE).

Can someone please help?

Thanks,

Nikola

Hi Nikola and welcome to Heroes!

What does the error message say? Are you following the steps here to original link to your file? Files that you link, should automatically be pulled into your published output - so you wouldn't need to add it to the folder itself.

Also, what update of Storyline are you using? We're currently on update 6.

Hi Ashley,

The error message looked like this (G: is my CD Drive):

The file has been linked to like this:

And added here:

I am using version 6.

I have tried this on another computer and the same error arises. It only arises after the CD has been burnt and the course is taken using the CD.

Hope this clarifies things,

Nikola

Hi Nikola,

Thanks for sharing those images. I don't have any CDs to test with (or a CD drive for that matter) but I did the same set up with a USB drive, as it should be similar behavior. When I did that, it made my notice that your excel document appears in a different part of the folder than mine. My excel document appears in the story_content folder -> external_files and then you should see the document. Do you see yours there? Is there a reason you've added it to this upper level?

My version worked as expected from Internet explorer and opened the document. Can you tell me what version of IE you're using?
