Publish to web - Not displaying

Mar 25, 2013

Hi all,

We have a problem with viewing story line files when publishing to web, this only affects one person in the team, our LMS administrator.

The rest of us see the story.html file as normal to preview modules but when they are sent to her for some reason she doesn't see them the same as us. Hers doesn't save as story.html and shows like a notepad icon instead of an Internet Explorer icon.

I have attached a screenshot of how the files look to her once extracted.

Thanks

Lisa

Hi Lisa

That's definitely unusual. There may have been an issue with how the project was zipped after publishing it. How was the project zipped? We recommend the following:

  • Use the built-in Zip feature on the Publish Successful dialog after you've published your Articulate content. It'll automatically create a well-formed zip file.
  • If you manually zip the output files, make sure that you only zip the contents of the output folder, not the folder itself.

Hi Lisa,

Odd. Doesn't look like it's recognizing it as an HTML file. The Flash file icon looks strange, as well. It may be due to a security or web setting on her machine.

Out of curiosity, though, if she uploads the content to the LMS, does it function properly? It's actually best to test the course files once they've been uploaded, so I'm curious why she'd want to view them locally.

If you view published Storyline content on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.
To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the following article for details:

Thanks for your replies.

We publish and send the zip file from the built in tools in Articulate.

Our colleague sent the zip, I can open it without a problem but its just our administrator that can't

I believe they do function properly as we have tested some other modules on our LMS and they have uploaded but I don't know if she was having this problem then. I'm not entirely sure why she needs to view them, maybe to check she is uploading the correct one? We have over 600+ modules on our LMS so maybe its to ensure she is working with the right file, I'm just guessing here!

I think it is possibly something to do with her settings on her PC too, will get her to go back to the IT Dept.

Thanks

Lisa
