Publishing Storyline project to video for use in Rise

Oct 20, 2023

Hi Articulate team, I've just created my first project in Storyline which I have published as a video to use in a Rise course.

It all works great, but when I inserted the video to Rise, it appears in the block as a black window with the play icon in the middle, even when I preview it. When I click play it plays as it should, but I was hoping that the first slide of the project would appear to be more visually appealing to the learner. I've tried searching for this as an option but haven't found it yet.

Am I missing something?

Thanks, Kirsty

Hello Kirsty,

Happy to help!

If you'd like to replace the black window containing the play icon with an image of your choice, you can add a cover photo to your course in the Player Settings instead.

When your course loads, your learners will see the cover photo instead of the black window. Just a note that your learners will still be required to press the 'Play' button to start the course.

Hope this helps!

Hi Jose, thanks for getting back to me! I've gone into player settings and added a cover photo as you suggested. It looks correct when I click on the image file link to refresh the previous screen. But when I publish it to video and then insert it in my Rise course, the black window still appears, even in preview mode. Will this work correctly perhaps once the Rise course has been published to a SCORM?

Thanks, Kirsty

Hi Kirsty!

Happy to jump in here!

Testing those steps on my end, I encountered the same behavior with the cover photo being absent from my Rise lesson. Not to worry! This is expected behavior.

A better approach would be adding your Storyline file to Rise as a Storyline block. This walkthrough can help get you started with that! After publishing my Storyline course to Review 360 and embedding it as a Storyline block (in Rise), the cover photo was working as intended.

Please let me know if you have any more questions!
