Quality Loss When Exporting Images out of SL

May 18, 2018

Hi, I need to adjust the visuals (characters, images) in Photoshop and as I export them from SL they loose a lot of sharpness. Any settings to preserve the original quality when Saving Image As that I am missing? Also, is there any way to see the full gallery of images in SL 360 instead of clicking 'show more' many times. Thanks!

Hi Tamara,

Are you exporting the images directly from Storyline itself by opening the story file and then right-clicking the images in the slides and select Save As Picture?  What is the file extension of the image that you are saving it as?

Note that if you are saving it as jpeg, it might loose its quality as you open, edit and save them in an image editor.  For that matter, there are cases when this happens when the Save As command is invoked as an application tries to recompress the jpeg images.

Do you still have access to the original files used to develop the story file?  It might be better if you used those image files directly for editing purposes.  If not and you are trying to save the files as jpeg, I suggest that you try saving under a different image file type (PNG for example).

Thanks.

Thank you, Chris!
This answers my first question - seems that there is no other way to export the images, which is sad because even in PNG format the images are not as sharp. Now comes my second question: can I access the library of Characters and the SL 360 library of images outside of the Storyline file - thus being able to work on original files in image editor? I have not found this feature and exporting them makes the quality insatisfactory. Thank you!

Hi Tamara,

Regarding your second question, I am not sure if this is an existing feature of Storyline or even if you can request a CD or a download link where all the images can be retrieved.

I think the Content Library as it is being loaded is probably being saved in cache somewhere for easy retrieval later.  I tried looking for it in all the hidden folders for Articulate and even for the browsers I am using but I do not see it being saved there.  About the only thing that I can do to increase the number of images being shown in the screen is to zoom out of the images.  That way, I do not have to click on 'Load More Images' that often.

Not sure if others in the Community have run into the same issue and have come up with other workarounds.  About the only thing I can suggest is perhaps this page may help.  This page describes best practices for having high quality images and videos in Storyline.

Thanks.
