Question about advancing from 1 scene to another than back again

Mar 31, 2014

OK, I am not sure if this is possible but what I am trying to do is have a trigger set to media to advance to a new scene when media finishes. When the next scene completes it advances back to the original scene.

That is easy enough; here is the tricky part. When the media finished I have a second trigger that advances that slide to the next layer while the player is set to resume saved state when revisiting. Is this possible to make the original scene/slide advance to a new layer so when the user goes back they are on the new layer?

Thanks

Ben

Hi Benjamin,

To allow a slide to show a layer when visiting it, you'll need to use a specific trigger with a condition - so something along the lines of "show layer X when the timeline starts on slide 1, when the variable Scene2 is True" and you'd set that variable to true at the end of Scene2, so that the user is shown the layer upon the revisit instead of seeing the base layer.

I am not getting this right. Here is what I have

Scene 1 has a video with a trigger to go to scene 2 when media finishes.

Scene 2 is a quiz.

When the quiz is answered correctly I have a variable (value = true when user clicks continue) and a second trigger that goes back to the previous scene (I have the slide chosen instead of scene).

Scene 1 has a second trigger on the media that shows the layer I want to show when media complete with the condition that the variable "==equal to True"

It goes back to base layer every time.

Variable was created value = false.

Any help, please.

Hi Ben,

Did you check the trigger order for the Scene 1 set up? You'll want the trigger to show the layer to appear before your play media trigger - also, I wouldn't assign it to when the media is complete, as that would involve it being replayed on the slide. I'd set it to when the timeline starts and it's assuming the media has already been played because the user has gone through the quiz.

If you're still having difficulty after checking into those elements, can you share the Storyline file here with us (even a sample/mocked up version)?

Hi Benjamin, I could be mistaken but I think your project is working fine. There is just nothing on the layer that you are jumping too so it looks like you are going to the base layer.  Try putting a shape or something on the layer and then test again. I think you will see that it is working. If you are still having issues with it - then I would remove the second trigger from the media and use a slide trigger instead. Set the trigger to show the layer when the timeline starts if the variable = true.

You are absolutely right. I had the media on the base layer hidden on the new layer, but it wasn't showing that way. I hav eno idea how many hours I probably wasted. Thanks for the tip.
