Quiz Retry dropping questions when Random is Checked

Dec 28, 2016

I have a Storyline 2 course with a single question bank that holds 12 questions.

If I check the "Draw questions randomly" box in the "Draw Questions from Bank" dialog, it will not present all 12 questions, even upon the first attempt, and even if I answer correctly all the questions that it does provide. This is the case whether I select "Include: All Questions" or "Include: 12 questions" in the same dialog.

If I UNCHECK the "Draw questions randomly" box, it provides all 12 questions upon both first try and all retake tries. I make no other changes to the course.

My questions:

1. Has anyone else experienced this?

2. When creating the questions in the question bank, I duplicated some of the questions, then changed the text. This saved me time on having to copy and paste individual triggers, but I wonder if there is something in the "Duplicate" function that is causing a problem with the random function.

Any help appreciated!

Best

Robert

Hi Alyssa! Yes, thanks very much, Vevette found the problem.
Articulate Support has always been quite helpful, and this was certainly a
clear example of that help--I was stumped!

A note here, and I'll put in a feature request... it is usually very
helpful to have "Next" buttons that pop on to show their availability at
the end of a screen's presentation. I find that I put in a large amount of
time maintaining my own pop-on buttons, since Storyline's default buttons
are always visible by default. The hassles usually involve maintaining the
on/off triggers during quizzes and review modes. It would reduce authoring
time considerably if "pop-on" capabilities that include such management in
quizzing and review could be implemented in a standard functionality.

That said, kudos again to Articulate Support (as well as the robust support
from the Storyline community!) for their help. Much appreciated.

Hi Robert, thank you for that feedback! We are always happy to help - that's what we're here for!

I'm not sure if I am understanding your feature request correctly, but have you tried using the combination of these two triggers to hide the default Next button until the timeline ends?

  • Change state of Next button to Disabled (or Hidden) when the timeline starts on [current slide]
  • Change state of Next button to Normal when the timeline ends on [current slide]
