Hi Sheri! This should be a simple matter of adding a text entry box (remember to make it match formatting!). I'd suggest adding a cue on the timeline and setting up a trigger to pause the timeline when it reaches the cue. Then another trigger to resume once required text is entered.
It sounds like you were using Storyline's screen recording tool, and it didn't pick up the text entry. I'd agree that adding a text entry field manually is a good solution. If you're still getting stuck, share your file with us, and we'll take a closer look!
How did you insert the Screen Recording? Try it and Test Mode would prompt the learner to interact with the items such as a test entry.
If you already recorded it, you can always insert it again and choose a new mode, you'll want to follow the steps here and choose the screen recording from the list of ones in use.
