Record Screen Simulation image disappears during execution

Apr 26, 2013

Hello, I am having a serious issue with the simulation/record screen feature.

I have inserted a view type simulation and have fine tuned the image for the slide to not show animation as I am only using one cap for each slide of the sim. When I preview or publish this slide the image disappears part way through the animation sequences and ruins the content. (the slide glitches out to all white or grey and white).

This is happening on several of my slides and since i am not using animations there is no screencast in the animation bar to set to show until end or edit any properties. Please help! This is sersiously jeapordizing my first project with the tool.

Thanks and Regards,

Josh Miller

Hi Josh,

First, can you please confirm that your machine is set to 96 DPI? Storyline doesn't currently support 120 DPI. If your system is set to 120 DPI, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:

*  Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.

*  Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.

*  Zoomed images don't work as expected.

*  Font sizes are incorrect after using the translation features.

Here's how you can switch to 96 DPI.

You'll also want to be sure you're following some basic rules to prevent strange behavior:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Finally, if your Storyline software is not working properly, a simple repair may fix the problem. If not, please feel free to submit a ticket to our support team for additional help.

Thanks, Josh!

I am indeded running at 96dpi :-( I am also meeting all the onther condidtions specified here. I have a walkaround but am quite disappointed that by partial screencasts just disappear on all my slides! I will need to submit a ticket as it will seriously impact my project if I do not figure this out very soon.

Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the tip Peter! i believe this issue si happening because I deleted my screencast item inn my timeline. I have been showing until end or replacing with images and things are okay.

I assume I need a premium support account to submit a case, right? Perhaps with the next license I purchase for the group I will grab a plan. I am having a few minor but frustrating problems.

Thanks again!
