Recording an AS400 Screen
Nov 13, 2012
Hello all!
The company i work for have recently purchased Articulate Storyline and I have hit a snag. Our main platform is an AS400 (DOS type) system and whilst screen recordings work as a video on a single slide, if I try to convert to step-by-step slides the AS400 content just disappears. It looks as though Storyline doesn't pick up enough information to break the video into step-by-step captioned processes - is this common when trying to capture an AS400 system and is there a way around it? I am guessing the application would need to be mapped but am hoping there is a simpler solution!
This is my first post so if you need further information please just ask!

Can you do screen captures on the system and can you run powerpoint?
I can do screen captures and run PowerPoint. I did consider doing this and then importing the PowerPoint / adding captions to mock up a View Mode. However, I would lose the ability to produce Try / Test Mode......
Hello Nicola, what IBM Client software are you using? IBM Client Access Express?
I would try to download the trial version of Mocha TN5250 .. here , try to install it and re-capure a few AS400 screens, and see if you get the same problem.
Let me know!
You wouldn't necessarily lose the abitlity, you would just have to create it yourself. It would slow you down of course.
Thanks Stefano, we already use a 3270 emulation client and this is the result I am getting even with that :-(
Jerson - you are right, it may be my only option at this rate! Thanks very much for the suggestion!
