Renaming Slides

May 27, 2016

Hi, does anyone know if it's possible to rename multiple slides at once?

I'm creating software simulations which causes Storyline to often give slides weird names, and I use the slide names in the Notes tab, so for some scenes I would like all the slides to have the same name. They are numbered differently so I can track them that way.

I've tried my usual windows trick of highlighting all the slides and selecting rename from a right click, but it only does the one slide... when you have maybe 20 or 30 slides in a scene, that's a pain to do! My guess is that it's not possible, but, if anyone does know a secret, magical way, I'd be very grateful :-)

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul

I just did a test with a four slide file where I left them all named as '1.1 untitled' '1.2 untitled' etc.

I then used File > Translation > Export and exported the file to word.  I could then make the changes to the slide names, saved the file (make sure it is the same name you used on the export) and then used the File > Translation > Import to get the slide names back into SL.

Might be a workaround for you.

Here is a tutorial about using the translation option.

Thanks, I'm trying the workaround today, I think it'll work, although I still have to export, then go through the whole story file finding the names I want to change and doing them individually, then import my names back in again.. Would be great if SL2 would just let you do this.. :-)

Hi David and welcome to E-Learning Heroes 😊

It looks like the users above were changing the actual slide names, but it sounds like you are looking to change the numbers?

Can you explain what you are running into an issue with and would like to change? I'd be happy to help!

If you're looking to number the Menu items, you have a couple of options:

  1. Enable the Menu to automatically number the items. (See image below)
  2. Manually include the slide number on the slide title.
