Reset the Slider thumb to initial state
Aug 06, 2015
Hello everyone,
I am having an issue with the thumb of the slider not starting at the very beginning when I revisit the slide. So let’s say I move the thumb to the middle of the track, then I go to another slide and when I come back to the slide with this slider, the thumb is still in the middle, not the beginning. The actual slide is set to “Reset to initial state”, so basically the audio restarts, but that’s about it. It’s a weird experience to have all the elements on the slide reset to initial state except for this thumb. If you have any advice on how to fix this issue please let me know. Thanks so much!!

Never mind. I figured it out :)
Thanks Yanna for the update and glad you were able to figure it out. :-)
I'm having the same issue with 2 of 3 slides based on same template. Can you let me know how you fixed it? Thanks!
Because the slider is tied to a variable, the slider does not reset when the slide resets. If you have to reset the slider, then you need to set the variable.
I have the same problem and try to figure out what the variable and trigger should look like in order for the thumb to go back to initial state when revisiting the slide. I have set the base layer (and all the slide layers) to initial state and I have the latest version of SL2. Can anyone please give some advice on the variable and trigger settings?
Hi Maria
see the attached sample helps you
Hi Wendy, thank you for your quick support. I have tried your suggestion but it still doesn't work. The thumb is still in the position I left it when I last visited the slide. When I made a test with your sample, adding a new slide after yours and went back to your first slide, your thumb did not either move to its initial place as fas as I could see. Does it work for you?
Hi Maria
I added in another slider slide and updated the triggers - see if this is what you need. Sorry I misunderstood first time, I thought you wanted it to retain what you had moved it to - my mistake.
Perfect Wendy, I figured it out too.. when I changed the trigger to set the value to 0 (which was my starting point for my slider) it worked fine. Thank you for reaching out to help me. Much appreciated!! Have a nice Sunday :-)
Glad you sorted it out Maria...sadly my Sunday is almost over (I'm in Australia) - enjoy yours!
I have this exact same problem and was excited to get here but my slider disappears if I set the value back to zero when revisiting. Any ideas?
Hi, Desiree -- Thanks for reaching out! Hi Desiree Moore,
I had faced the same issue with slider thumb not perfectly reset/ sometime hides when i click on replay.
It was resolved if the appearing timing on screen of slider is exactly at 0 and property of base layer is set to reset to initial when revising. No animation given to slider.
Thanks Vivek for sharing! This discussion is a bit older, but I'm sure that'll help others who come across it.
It certainly helped me :)
I realize this is an older thread, but I am hopeful that someone will jump in and help.
I am using sliders as my navigation to simulate scrolling up and down a long page in an application.
When I return to page 1 after visiting page 2, I would like the slider to be in the center position (Varslider6 = 1).
If I add the variable change to the end of the slider move trigger, it does not occur because I have already jumped to the next slide before that executes.
If I reset it at the beginning of the slide, the slide jumps to the next slide immediately.
Does anyone have an idea of how I could make this work?
I'm not where I'm able to look at your story right now, but try this.
On page two, when you jump back to page 1, set VARslider6 to 1, then execute the jump trigger. The variable set must be before the jump, or it won't be executed.
ARGH!!! Still not responding as I want it to. the variable is changing, but the slider is not. It works if I go from slide 1, to 2, to 1, and back to 2. It does not work if I go from slide 1, to 2, to 3, and back.
Thank you, Walt. Tried that. Still not working :(
Set slide 2 to reset to initial state on revisit.
Hi Glenda, I had a quick look and have attached a modified version. Basically you need to assign the same variable VARslider6 to the slider in each of the 3 slides. Way easier to manage one variable instead of three. I am assuming that slide 3 is the bottom of the long page so I have set the slider to be positioned at the bottom of the page. The slider sits in the middle for slide 1 and 2. Also as Walt mentioned you need to set the slide initial state on revisit which has been set on the attached SL file. Hope this helps :) Cheers Gerry
Wow! Thank you, Gerry and Walt!!! I thought I would go bald pulling my hair out. I know about resetting the slide but never thought of it. I didn't know I could operate three different sliders with the same variable.
Once again, this proves Articulate has the BEST users. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Hello,
i'm trying to fix an issue concerning a slider that won't reset in the file attached.
The first time, I visit the slider slide and answer the question (for instance 1/5).
When I come back on the slide, the slider image keeps at the same place on 1/5, while the variables seem to be reset on the first place (1/3 with its corresponding state appearing "3").
I really don't know why is this happening...
If you have any advice on how to fix this issue please let me know.
Many thanks in advance !!!
Anne
I know this is a VERY old thread, but just in case anyone is still having issues, make sure when you reset your variable, that you are setting the right one! Check the usage in the variables list. If you added more than one slider, or you added and then deleted and then added again, you may have multiple slider variables.
