Resources - file type icon

Jan 08, 2014

Hi

I'n my Storyline Resources I have a mix of Word and PDF files - however it is very random and a bit hit band miss whether the file typer icon get's displayed or not (see screen shot). Does anyone know why and what I can do about it? It seems as when I add a resource e.g. a Word file, the Word icon appears alongside, then when I add another file it vanishes!

Any help much appreciated - maybe it is a bug?

Hi Nick,

It looks like odd behavior, so I'd suggest checking into the following items first:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive).Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, includingfile corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.
  • Are you using update 4 of Storyline?

Does this happen in all your Storyline files? If so, you may also want to conduct a repair.  If it's just this one project, you may want to try importing it into a new Storyline file.

Also, are you still able to click on the items and open successfully once published? There isn't a way to change the icons, so let me know how it goes after checking the above steps.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

I will move all the Resources (Word/PDF) into a new directory and will attempt a new upload from there, as they currently sit within various fielder layers. I will also streamline the file names to see if that helps before I upload them. I am using the latest build of Storyline as far as I know.

Regards.

Nick
