Results & Reviewing the quiz

Nov 21, 2012

i am a "new comer" to Articulate and have created a simple 10 question multiple choice quiz for my training package (using just the basic functions provided in Articulate. When I run through this it operates correctly and gives the correct results % and pass/fail but when I press the "review quiz" (and I have ticked the "show correct/incorrect responses when reviewing" option) it will run through giving an indication of the correct answer BUT it displays the "Incorrect" bar at the bottom (irregardless of whether the answer had been answered correctly or not during the quiz) and then displays a new result of 0% "Fail"

I have looked through tutorials and the "editing" facility and cannot find what the problem is - hopefully something simple that I am missing - Help please

Hi Christine,

I just tried replying to the email I received with a message and attached my "proof of concept" Draft .story file - which is apparently the wrong way to respond. Before I attach the file here can you tell me whether this then puts it into a "public domain" as I don't wish to do this at this moment in time.

Hi Andy,

Not a problem. If you'd like to keep the file private, I completely understand. If you'd like, you can submit a support case and attach your .story file to that case. All files that are sent to our support team are kept confidential.

Also, if you can, please share your case number with me. You can do this by responding to this thread, or by sending me a private message.

Hi Christine,

Thanks for this, however I have tried five times now to submit a support case and each time after the file loads I get the message

"Whoops. We are having a problem uploading your file. \nPlease try again in a bit."

The file is only 3Mb so I wouldn't have thought that would be the problem here?

I will keep trying throughout the day (I am also guessing that we are on different time zones?).

Hi again,

I just thought that I would mention that I have just attempted submitting a support case request without attaching a file at all to see if that might test the request system itself but when I press submit I immediately get the same message "Whoops. We are having a problem uploading your file. \nPlease try again in a bit." again.

You don't turn your servers off or "down" when "out of hours" do you? or is that a silly question?

Hi, one of our developers has also seen this issue (or similar) recently. I am just looking at it myself and will submit a support case if I find the same.

On a similar note (and more serious, as it's a production system!), we have a client who has been using our training (Moodle/Storyline) for several months and with over 3000 users. By far the majority of the time things have been running smoothly, but a couple of users claimed that they passed a quiz (80%) but then the review option showed a fail!! I put this down to 'user' error (seeing things, as I have been using SL from the beta and never seen this). However, this has happen several times recently and I am starting to believe them, but the inconsistencies make it difficult to investigate.

Has anyone else seen anything similar? My project file is large and I can't share it publicly unfortunately, but I will be cutting it down to the quiz and submitting a case shortly as this is a serious problem (the quiz in this case uses a databank of questions)..

Just wondered if anyone has seen anything similar?

regards,

Vispi.

Good morning Andy and Vispi,

Sorry to hear about the trouble with submitting the cases and the delay in responding, I was out of the office for the holiday. I'm not sure if there was an issue with the case system, but it is possible that there may have been a temporary outage due to maintenance. Thank you both for sharing your case numbers. I will keep an eye on both of them and follow along with the progress.

I appreciate the additional information

Thank you, again. Have a great day!

Hi Andy, I've heard back from support and the issue is to do with the 'When revisiting' property. I had mine set to 'reset to initial state'. If you change this to either of the other states it fixes the issue.

Personally I think this is a bug as you should be able to have the option to reset to initial state on question slides... Unless I'm missing something here...  I'll discuss further with the good folks at support

Hope this sorts your issue out too, should do!

regards,

Vispi.

Hi Vispi,

I have just tried your solution and got it to work thanks - however I agree that this can't be the "proper professional solution" surely, as I had to go into each question slide to change the properties - for ten questions, not too bad but this is only my "proof of concept" quiz and when I get many more questions it could be cumbersome. I will have to look into "master slides" as this may help my future quiz development?

Kind Regards

Andy

Hi Andy, by default, the property is set to 'Automatically decide' so you shouldn't have a problem there. I think the bigger issue is that for some projects you may want to have the quiz questions return to their initial state if the user decides to revisit the quiz. I have just spotted the 'retry' option under the quiz results, so I guess that can be triggered to do this!

Vispi.

Hi Vispi,

Interesting that you say the default is "Automatically decide" as I hadn't changed mine when building the quiz (well I didn't intentionally change anything) and all of the slides were set at "Reset to initial state" so I had to change them all. I will have a further look (and play) as soon as able but unfortunately I am going off site again teaching for the next two weeks so it will have to wait a little while longer to explore more.

Thanks for keeping the info coming and I will let you know of any progress when it happens

Kind Regards

Andy
