Resume from last time?

May 20, 2014

Hi

I am using Articulate Online to manage my clients Compliance eLearning, and they have advised that when they go back into the course, they are unable to go to the last page.  They select Yes to the message 'do you want to resume from where you last left' of similar, but I have had 3 or 4 different people saying that they last page they were on is not what shows when they select yes.  If they leave part way through a scene, it takes them to the beginning of the scene.

Can you help?

Many thanks

Olivia

Hi Olivia,

For the group of people who have experienced this behavior - is there a particular browser or set up that they're using? They'll want to use one of the recommendation browsers detailed here.

If you'd like to provide me with a link to access your course, I'm also happy to test it in a few different browsers to determine if there is a particular set up causing the odd resume behavior.

Hi Ashley

They are using IE8 - no chance for any browser change as with most large organisations, they are still on IE8 (I'm working with around 6 large global companies, all have IE8 and it's a nightmare!).  I have attached the version for you to check.

Many thanks

Hi Olivia.,

Thanks for sharing the course. I published it to my Articulate Online account here and tested it in an IE8 window where I ran through the course. I got all the way to the results slide - used your exit button to close the browser and then opened the link again in a new IE8 browser. I was prompted with the Resume pop up and was returned to the particular slide where I left off (results slide). I also tried jumping around to different slides from the results slide, closing the browser and accessing it again - and again I picked up on the slide I left off on. I also tried using the browser's close button instead of the Exit button and still the same behavior. Since I'm not able to replicate the behavior you mentioned and it was only a few users who experienced it, we'd need to know more about their set up and what's happened. Do you know if those users are able to try it from another computer?

Hi Ashley

Thanks for trying.  One particular journey that they did that consistently showed this in IE8 was:

Copyright Module

Go through all the content

Take first question

Exit

Resume

Goes to the first page of Copyright rather than the question you left from

Would you be able to test that scenario for me and see if you have a similar result?

Many thanks

Hi Olivia,

Certainly - I just tested that set up, and answered the first question in the copyright section, got it correct and moved to the next question which was a matching drag and drop. I closed the course using your "exit" button, and then relaunched it in a new IE8 window. I was provided the prompt to resume, and then I was brought back to the matching drag and drop. I could also use the previous button to return to the previous question and see that my answer was still selected.

Are you able to replicate this behavior yourself in IE8 or just have heard from particular users that it's happening?

I had an issue like this in the past, but it was stongly connected with scorm. I read somewhere that scorm 1.2 can behave that way (or some browser in combination with the scorm 1.2). The solution for my project was found, I published the project with scorm 2004 instead of 1.2 and everything was OK. In this case, you are publishing directly to articulate-online so I would not know what could be the issue.

Hi,

So basically my question is how can I make it possible to have the user start from the last slide they left off?

Say I start my LMS at 10am and by 1030, I'll close the app/window. At 11am, I will want to use LMS again and when I open the course, can it prompt me to start from the last slide I visited instead of the first slide again of that course?

Thanks.

Hi Bianca,

You can enable the Resume behavior as detailed here.  Some LMSs also have options about resuming, so you may want to reach out to your LMS to see if they had additional suggestions.

Also, just as an FYI that responding via email includes your signature here so you're welcome to edit the post to remove that information.
