return of state

I'm creating a custom menu and I have most of what I want to do figured out but I'm stuck on one problem. The menu has 16 different topics. I'm using hot spots on each selection. When you hover over a selection it gets highlighted. When you click on the hot spot, the state of the button changes permenently to the highlighted state and jumps to a new slide. On the new slide if you hover over any of the other selections they are highlighted and I the one that is curently highlighted is unhighlighted. So far I'm good on this. But, if you are not hovering over any selection, I would like the current topic/menu item to highlight again. What trigger or state control should I use to accomplish this?

Mike,
If you're recreating that menu on each slide, you could set the initial state of that corresponding menu item to highlighted. This will have it hold it's state on that slide. I've attached a sample.
Mike,
Thank you very much for your solution. That is exactly what I'm looking for.
