Same video duplicated many times in the published storyline project.

Jan 09, 2018

Hello everybody. Today I was working with a project where I had a video background for the project, same video is appearing on every slide, so it is set on the master slide. Looks great, but today while publishing I noticed that in the output the same video is duplicated by the number of slides and makes the project huge (the video is 8mb only, but on a project with 40 slides, it is duplicated 40 times in the package, so only the videos are 320mb).
Has anybody else noticed this, is there a solution so the same video will be shown on every slide and to have it only once in the output?
Thanks.

Thanks for your post, Marko! We are seeing a problem in Storyline where a video is included multiple times in the published output if it is used in the Slide Master, and it sounds like you're running into that bug.

Can you confirm what version of Storyline you're using? I want to make sure we update our bug report with the version you have installed. Thanks!

Thanks for the answer Alyssa, I am using Articulate Storykline 3, update 2. I am not sure how I haven't noticed previously, but it is not logical. The whole course is supposed to be around 400 slides total, and I cannot imagine what will happen with the size of the project if the same video is copied 400 times in the output,

Btw, is there a way to use the same video throughout the course? It is not important will it be on the master slide or not, I just want to check out is there a way we can use the same video on every slide without being duplicated.

Haha, just imagine a course with 400 slides and the very same video playing on every slide. :)

The total size is around 400+ slides, 10 lessons - 40+ slides each. However, the projects are huge with this option too. Without the audios, lessons are around 30mb each and with the background video, average size is 350mb per lesson which is too much.

I just thought that it would be an interesting idea to have videos as backgrounds. However, the weirdest thing for me is how I have not noticed this previously because I am using Storyline since the very first version was released and many times I had courses with video as background, but I have not noticed the size of the files. Probably other tools were used for those projects, cannot remember.

Anyway, please keep us informed about this. It seems very logical to have one same video on every slide instead of duplicating it.
Thanks

Hi Marko and Wendy,

I have some good news to share!

We just released the newest version of Storyline 360 (Build 3.35.20995.0) this morning, which fixed the duplicated media issue!

The next step is to update Storyline 360 by heading to your Articulate 360 desktop app and clicking "Update" next to Storyline 360.
