Saving during learning?

Dec 12, 2018

Is there a way to get an eLearning course to send progress back to the LMS whilst the learning is completing the training?

I ask this because some of my learners are experiencing PC crashes during their learning and are losing their progress because they haven't exited properly. I was hoping I could put a "save" button after each scene so that progress is saved. Is this possible?  Sorry if this is a daft question!

I am using Storyline 3.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Lucy!  This is definitely not a daft question.  We're going deep into the dialogue of your course and the learning management system...I'll bring the flashlight!

Storyline courses use suspend_data to decide where in the course to resume after a course is closed.  This article does a great job of explaining just how that works.

As a learner makes his way through a course, a compressed chunk of suspend data is sent to the LMS after each slide.

So Storyline is doing exactly what you're asking -- after every slide, it is storing learner progress in the LMS.  When the learner comes back to the course, the LMS sends that stored progress back to the course so it knows where to resume.

It sounds like some of your learners are not resuming where they expect after a PC crash.  We're happy to help work on this issue with you!  Get in touch with our support engineers here for expert help.
