To combine movement and resizing, I've had the best luck creating in PowerPoint, as it does those sort of things well, and with great control. Then I export as a video into SL.
I know that a lot of people on this forum want SL to everything better than any other program on the market. My rule of thumb is that generalist programs do things generally well, but if you want special results, use specialized programs. Use graphic programs to do what graphic programs do well, use video editing programs to do what video editing programs do well, and use SL to do what SL does well. For those times when you don't need special results, SL does lots of things outside its designed scope generally well.
