Scenarios and associated questions

Aug 05, 2015

Hi

I am hoping that you can help me.  I have a project for a client where I have a set of scenarios and for each scenario there are questions on that specific scenario.

I need assistance with 2 things please:

1) On the example, page 2, the blocks below the questions are supposed to go to the corresponding page so that they can answer the question.  I have tried using the triggers but instead of just changing the one box, all the triggers for the 3 boxes also change.

2) On page 2, how do I grey out questions 1.2 and 1.3 for the initial state, when they need to answer question 1.1.  The participant will then answer question 1.1, and they are taken back to the question page (page 2) and then I want questions 1.1 and 1.3 greyed out.  Can this be done?

Thanks

Leandra

Hi Leandra,

What you describe can be done with triggers, variables, and states but I'm wondering why you would do it this way. Are you trying to make the order in which the questions are answered free? If the students are going to answer Q1.1, then 1.2 then 1.3 in order I would just eliminate your slide 1.2 and go straight to slide 1.3 with your Q1.1. Maybe I'm missing something; can you explain further?

Hi Brett

The client wants slide 1.2 (where all the questions are displayed) and we want them to answer in order- 1.1 then 1.2 etc.

So when they see slide 1.2 for the first time then question 1.1 is prominent and questions 1.2 and 1.3 are greyed out.
Once they have answered 1.1, the participants is taken back to slide 1.2 where question 1.2 will be prominent.

Basically you'll need grayed out states for your questions and a T/F variable for each question with a default setting of T for Q1 and F for Q2-3. On 1.2 set the state of Q1 as Normal and Q2-Q3 as "Grayed" when the timeline starts. This will give you a normal view of Q1 and grayed views of Q2-3. You'll use the T/F variables to change the states of your questions on slide 1.2. You do that by putting triggers on the submit buttons of each question AND by having a trigger on 1.2 that reads your variables and adjusts the states "when the timeline begins".

Essentially you are having slide 1.2 read the question variables when its timeline begins and if a variable is F it should show the grayed state, if it's true it shows the normal state. You're going to have to add a number of triggers to cover all the possibilities but it can be done.
