It sounds like the score is not being set than based on the questions answered? Are you able to share a copy of your .story file for us to take a look at?
Certainly understandable - have you checked into elements such as the trigger order, ensuring there is a trigger to submit results slides, that there aren't any extra spaces in the variable reference thus making it standard text? You may also want to review the information here in regards to how results slides are set up.
