Screen recording pan in Try Mode

May 28, 2014

Hi~

Forgive me if this question is elsewhere.  The search function doesn't seem to be working here as it yields no results to every search term I've tried.

When a screen recording is inserted in Try Mode, it is sized to fit the story size -- is that correct?  There is no way to pan across a screen recording that is wider than the story size?

If so, then a way to make a part of the screen more readable would be to insert a zoom region, right?  I've looked at the tutorial about creating a pan effect using multiple zoom regions.  The question is whether this can be done across slides as generated by Storyline when inserting a screen recording in "Try Mode."  I've played around with it, and it doesn't seem work, but I want to know if I'm missing something.

Thank you~

Susan

Hi Susan,

You're absolutely correct. When you insert either type of step-by-step recording, that becomes the background of your slide. It's not adjustable.

However, what you could do is take a screenshot or create an image of that background (unless you want to insert separate frames from a single video recording) and then apply/use the Zoom Region tool on that image.

Also, sorry about the trouble with the search feature! No doubt the search feature on the forums could definitely use a helping hand - we're hoping that the next version of the forums will have a more user-friendly search feature.

In the meantime, however, I personally recommend using Google instead. If you use a specific string "site:nameofdomain.com", you can narrow the search results for a specific domain. For example, you could search for "Storyline Try Mode Recordings site:community.articulate.com". Using that search, you'll actually see a lot of pretty helpful threads.

I hope this helps!

Best,

Christine
