Screencast- Moving the object and Layout slide

Mar 06, 2014

Hi everyone!

I am working in Articulate Storyline and having a few problems with the ScreenCast using the slide by slide method.

The first issue is that I can't get the ScreenCast object to move on the slide.  This is frustrating because the mp4 file is blocking essential information on my slide (that needs to be where it is) and I can't move the screencast object.  Is there a work around for this?

The second issue I am having is that my master slide layout is not pulling through completely on the screen cast slide.  Some of the objects for the layout view are appearing, however, others are not.  This is also a major problem.

Please help!

Thank you.

Hi there Quinn!

When you insert a step-by-step screen recording, it actually becomes the background for the slide where its been inserted. This is why your Master layout(s) and some elements may not be showing through.

If you need to add content, you'll want to arrange the new content on the "Front" of the slide - or top of the timeline. Select the object, right-click on it and select "Bring to Front".

If you absolutely need to show your layouts through these slides, it might be best to insert the recording as a single video. You will then be able to move the video around the slide. You can use "Edit Video" option to trim the video and show the portion relevant to that slide.

If you're not familiar with editing videos in Storyline, I'd recommend taking a look at the following tutorial:

Thanks for you help Christine,

Is there anyway to not allow the video to become part of the background?  We are using this for a software simulation so it is extremely helpful to have it in the slide by slide format, however it would save us a lot of time to be able to use our custom built layouts.  We have already struggled through how to do audio with the screencast slide by slide and are not thrilled with how it is sounding.  I am discouraged at this point because it seems that this function only limits our capability.

Thanks
