Scrubbing the timeline : actual view ?

Apr 01, 2014

Hello,

I think it would be great if you could scrub the timeline in Storyline.

Being used to Flash, I find having all object at once confusing (and actually I don't see the point apart from a visual mess).

The problem is you can't see what you actullay get under playhead unless you play your scene.

Could you consider having a mode where you only see on stage what's under the playhead ? I recently had a busy timeline with many speech bubbles and I spend my time hiding/unhiding layer to get everything in place.

What do you think ?

I'm glad I didn't have to wait 5 or 6 years to find out that this feature is not being implemented. I also come from a video and audio editing background and I really thought I was doing something wrong when my canvas/screen kept showing objects that were not lined up with my play-head. But I guess this is a feature and not a bug. Too bad.

But just in case, I'll fill out a feature request for scrubbing AND playhead honesty (showing what is currently in the timeline based on the playhead instead of showing all objects in a layer).

Just going to throw this out there, this missing feature is the sort of thing that would cause me to recommend some other software solution to my team such as Captivate. I am new to Instructional Design after 10 years of teaching digital media. Maybe Articulate doesn't really care about the type of user I am and background I have, but I think there are more of us beginning to use these types of tools and this might be a missed opportunity on your part.

Hi, Everyone!

I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 66, we’ve included important fixes and new features.

One of the features we’ve included is:

Scrub the timeline to quickly see when timed elements appear and disappear on the stage without previewing the entire slide.

To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!
