Search function allows users to skip ahead in blocked course

Nov 23, 2012

We have created a series of compliance courses with storyline and the screens must be set so that the user cannot skip ahead to the next screen until the audio and animation is finished on the current screen.

Another condition is that the course be fully searchable: we thought the menu search function  of storyline would be ideal.

The problem is, for example: if a user is in unit 2 and searches for a word which is found in unit 4, 7 and 8, they are able to skip ahead to those units without having completed the rest of unit 2, and all of unit 3, 5 and 6, etc. This is further complicated by the fact that the course is never "completed" due to the fact that screens have not been seen by the user, and therefore due to the conditions, the user is not able to access the final examination, certificate, etc.

Please let me know if there is a way to set it so the search function is only available:

1. once the user has compelted the entire course, or

2. the user is able to click only on the found terms that are located in screens that he has previously viewed.

Any other suggestions are welcome!

Hi Chantal and welcome to the Elearning Heroes Community,

One of the solutions is to use variables

Each of your slides will need to have a variable that initialy is set to False and when the slide timeline ends, is set to True.

At the last slide, you only allow them to quit/receive the certificate... when All variables are set to True

Cheers

Geert
