Seekbar not synced with audio and question about advancing slide before audio finishes

Mar 09, 2017

I have a story that has audio added to it (.wav files) that the seek bar lags way behind.  This is making it difficult for users to know when to advance to the next slide.  Thoughts?

Additionally - is there a function that will keep a user from skipping through a slide before the audio is finished?

Thanks!

Hey Shelley!

Can you tell me a bit more about the issue you're seeing with the seekbar? Are you seeing this in Preview mode of Storyline, or after publishing?  If you are testing the published output, what LMS or Web environment are you uploading it to? My first thought is that if you're testing locally, rather than uploading to an LMS or web environment, that may be what's causing the issues you're seeing. You'll want to make sure to upload your published output to it's intended environment to test it properly.

And yes, there are two ways you can prevent learners from clicking Next before the audio is complete:

  • If you have audio on most or all of your slides: Adjust the menu options to restricted navigation. With this option, your learners will not be able to click the next button until the timeline ends on all slides.
  • If you have audio on a few slides: Use two triggers to restrict navigation.
    • Change state of next button to Disabled when timeline starts on [current slide].
    • Change state of next button to Normal when media completes [select audio].

I hope this is helpful!
