Send the Value of a Variable to an LMS/LRS
Feb 11, 2022
Good afternoon, I am posting here looking for some help on an issue my team and I are having.
Our goal is to pass the result of a variable onto an LMS. This variable would be a users text entry where their statements during a reflection slide and turned into a variable. We already have it set up so that the users data entry field would become the variable "User_Input".
However we have had no success in completing the features that allow us to pass the variable to ScormCloud using either method found in this guide: https://articulate.com/support/article/Storyline-360-How-to-Send-the-Value-of-a-Variable-to-an-LMS
In both methods of implementation, no variables or interactions were passed onto ScormCloud and we're frankly at a loss as to why it doesn't work.
Attached is a simplified version of the course we are making for our client where we have tried the second method of the course exporting to it LMR/LRS as Scorm2004
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Corey.
Thank you for sharing your .story file!
I noticed you created a Survey slide with an attached Results slide, but didn't connect them to the path the user follows:
The learner starts on slide 1.1, and they move to slide 1.2. The slides on the right, 1.3 and 1.4, are never interacted with.
While you correctly selected Slide 1.4 as the tracking option, the variable is not sent to the LMS since the user doesn't actually complete the quiz.
I re-structured your project this way:
Slide 1.1 > Slide 1.3 (Automatically advancing to) > Slide 1.4 (Automatically advancing to) > Slide 1.2
I'm attaching the edited file here, and below, you will also see a screenshot of the value sent to SCORM Cloud ("hello"):
I hope this helps!
Hi Maria,
This was excellent! Thank you ever so much for your feedback. We'd tried something like this before but it must've been just slightly wrong as it didn't work for us.
But after looking at the way you have done it here we have managed to make it work!
Thank you so much, you're a lifesaver.
