Setting start time of a video

May 05, 2014

Hi,

I am trying to set "Start time" on a video but it is not working. I want that when a user clicks on a link, the video should skip first 80 seconds. I right clicked on the video and clicked on Timing-> start time . I changed the start time as 80 seconds but the video is still starting from the beginning.

The Start time parameter you see when you right-click is the time when the video begins to display on the slide's timeline. It does not refer to a point in time in the video  itself. You could trim a copy of the video to start at 80 sec. and then link to that version of the video. See here for info on editing videos.

Hi Maansi,

I think when you use the "timing" function as describe here, it's actually editing the timing of the video on the Timeline (when it comes into play on the slide).  I would recommend using the "edit video" functionality and trimming the video to the correct start time.  Then when you save your changes, it should automatically edit the video and save the correct timings.  Hopefully these screen shots help!

Thanks Kristen for your reply.

But I do not want to use trim function. If I use trimfunction then user cannot rewind the video because the portion before 80seconds would not be in the trimmed video.

I asked a similar question here:

Is there any way to add jump tags in a video withouttrimming it?

Thanks so much for your help!

Ah, I understand.  Unfortunately, I've never tried this and do not believe this is an out of the box feature in Storyline.  It looks like the community has posted some workarounds (using layers with video segments and cue points):

Hopefully that thread may help you.
