shortcut to next screen in simulation

Aug 15, 2021

Hi All,   Sorry this is probably one of those lack of knowledge of the product questions, but I have created a simulation that if an incorrect response has been entered into a field and even after the Try Again layer has been displayed, and the correct response entered the second time the simulation states the answer is incorrect.  We are running the simulations without the TOC so our participants will become stuck at this point.  Is there a shortcut key or something that the participant can use to move to the next screen bypassing this 'glitch'.  Cheers David

Hi Lauren,

Yes I have created a Try It simulation and for some reason just on one screen the trigger I created for the Try Again layer does not clear the initial text entry when that text entry is incorrect. I can manually clear it first by pressing the delete key then re-enter the correct value and it will work, but if I don't clear the entry although the entry does not show it is clearly somewhere in the field as it will keep giving me the Try Again layer. At this point in time I don't think it is something to worry about.

However I do have another lack of knowledge issue. Is it possible to embed a simulation in a Rise course but have the first screen you see on the simulation a picture or text or something other than this big black picture image. i.e. is it possible to add an image on the first page.

Hi, David.

  • (...)  the trigger I created for the Try Again layer does not clear the initial text entry when that text entry is incorrect (...)

Which trigger did you add for the Try Again layer? I usually recommend adding Set TextEntry to value (blank)  when the user clicks Try Again if that's not the one you're using.

Just make sure that trigger happens before the one that hides the layer, so it works in the correct order.

Do you have audio or video on the first slide of your Storyline project? This article will explain why you see this behavior on modern browsers.

One option to avoid the Play button is to insert a blank slide as your first slide and add a trigger to jump to the next slide when the timeline starts.

Keep in mind that this will also be browser-dependent, and while it might show the slide without the Play button, it might still require the user to click on the screen to hear the audio.
