I'd like to make a multilayer slide in which each layer will be shown or hidden by pressing the same button. Here is an example of what I mean. Could you please help me?
Hello Yannis - I'm sure there are a few ways to do this, but I like to use a variable, and then "toggle" the variable each time the checkbox or button is pressed using the "NOT assignment" functionality. Set up a couple of slide level triggers that show or hide the layer depending on the value of the variable.
I've attached an example of what I'm talking about, hope it makes sense.
Thanks Emily and Brian. I use both of your solutions, but Brian's with variables I think is more effective for me. As usually happens after you have solved a problem, another pops-up suddenly. When I show the first layer after I have shown the others, it covers them. The same happens and with other slides, e.g. Main street covers the Forums. It seems like they lost their order.
Emily, if there is a way you can escalate the issue of slide layer ordering it would be great.
I like to be able to tell people that I can do just about anything I want to do in Storyline, but this issue has stopped me dead in my tracks on this specific project and I haven't had time to try any of the suggested workarounds.
Slide layer ordering should be something that, in my opinion, shouldn't need a workaround to enforce.
Since the layers showing in the order in which they are triggered, not the order in which they are created in SL, is by design, we can only encourage you to continue submitting feature requests.
Hi, i see that this post is almost 6 years old so there might be some changes since then and i would like to add my problem to the mix.
I'm creating a presentation showing the different floors of an offshore platform and the idea is that you can click on the different equipment to toggle the showing of a textbox with information.
This went fine in powerpoint where i could click to show/hide the textboxes, but here when i add 2 triggers, one with the "change state to Normal if Hidden" and one with "change state to Hidden if Normal", they seem to conflict and dont work.
Putting them in layers and "toggling" variables is doable but when some floors have 60-80(!) different equipment it seems a bit excessive to add variables and triggers to each one. So is there a better way of doing this now almost 6 years later?
Put the text box on the Selected state of the object, An object with a Selected state switches between Normal and Selected state each time it is selected, using built-in magic. No triggers are needed.
I struggled with my toggle switch for several hours trying to follow the instructions of others. Although your post is from over 6 years ago, THIS finally made it clear. Thank you!!!

Hello Yannis!
Welcome to Heroes! You can achieve this by adding two triggers to the button that you want to "show layer" then "hide layer" when user clicks.
If you have a file to share it might be easier to look at the set up you have to see how to make adjustments. you can attach a file here.

Yannis, I feel your pain... I also ran into this same issue recently. There are a couple of suggested workarounds in this thread but I haven't had time to try them (good luck) - https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/slide-layers-and-stacking-order
Thanks for sharing Brian.
Hopefully the link Brain provided will be able to help Yannis.

Yes, there is a better way.

Thank you! This is very helpful
