Show/Hide Layers

Dec 27, 2017

Hi All,

I'm trying really hard to figure out why a show/hide layer series is not working here for me. What I'm trying to do is create a trigger trick that mimics a sliding in/out menu. From what I read/saw here, the basic idea is that you have a your base layer, and two other layers, show and hide. The show layer is triggered via a clickable menu icon and an entrance animation starts as soon as the timeline of that layer starts. I've got that down. According to the video, the way to hide the layer is to have a hide layer trigger occur when the timeline of the hide layer ends. But that doesn't quite make sense to me, and doesn't seem to be working.

Secondly, I notice that when the show layer occurs more than once, the animation stops. I'd like this to animation to continually repeat, as is instructed in this thread here.

Honestly, I don't know where I'm going wrong. Here's my Storyline file. If anyone can help, I'd be really grateful.

Hi Andrew,

You can do it in several ways but you only need one layer for menu. Here is how I did for your example (attached).

  1. Show menu layer when clicking the menu icon in base slide. (Which you have done)
  2. Set triggers in menu layer
  • Move the menu group into the screen (from out side) when timeline starts the layer.
  • Move the menu group out of the screen when clicking the menu icon.
  • Hide the layer when the motion animation completed.
