Showing layers based on multiple triggers
Sep 23, 2019
I am creating a checklist/quiz in Storyline 360, and one of the questions that I would like to include is causing me a bit of a headache! Can anyone help with the following?
What I am looking to achieve: Users are given three possible responses to a question. They can select as many or as few of these responses as they want. Based on the combination of responses that they select, they will be shown a particular piece of content.
What I have done so far: I have created a layer for each possible combination of responses. I have then created variables so that each layer is shown based on the true/false state of each response. I've set triggers on the responses to change them from false to true if clicked.
What's not working: If a user clicks on one of the responses, the layer for that response shows. However this does not change if the user then clicks on a second response.
My question: How do I get the layer view to change if the user then clicks on a second or third response? Should I include a time delay in the triggers to give the user time to select all of their responses before the content is shown? (And how would I go about doing this?) OR, is there a much easier way of doing this whole thing?
I hope this makes sense, I've attached a sample so that you can see what I have done so far to try and get it to function.
Thank you!

Hi there Eidos team,
Good morning!
I'm sorry to hear that you're having a headache in creating a quiz with the slide triggers function. Yes, I was in the same predicament as you in the past. It's not really easy to have these functions to work but with patience, I am sure you'll be able to figure it out.
Anyway, would you mind sharing the .story file again as it seems not to be working when i tried opening the file? I got an error message that the .story file was either corrupt or it was created in an earlier version of Storyline.
Let me see if i can help you out with your quiz. :)
Cheers,
Georvy
Good evening :-)
Thanks for your help. I've attached again - hopefully it will work this time.
Hi
See attached update to your file...I added another slide and tweaked how this could be done without it being a quiz slide but you could also use a Pick One Freeform slide to achieve the same thing if you need it to be graded.
Thanks Wendy. Adding the button as you have suggested seems to work great! However I've not got a button on the other questions, so I would like to avoid adding one if possible. Do you know how I could get the same functionality without asking the user to click a button once they've made their selection?
Since you are giving the user time and each user will take a different time or make changes you’d need something to indicate that you are ready to show layers based on their selection. Perhaps an instruction they have xx seconds to answer with a timer or a transparent layer that goes over the slide after xx secs . That’s why I added the button which gives the user control
Hi Eidos team,
I think Wendy pretty much covered it and would've done the same thing. That's the best and most convenient way for the layers to show up in my honest opinion too.
All the best on your project!
Cheers,
Georvy
Thanks both, yes that makes sense Wendy. I'll go with the button.
