Simulation using text entry controls

Apr 22, 2016

Hello All,

I am new to trying to create a simulation from scratch just using screens, text entry and key commands. I tried recording this but I only need 4 steps, and everytime I record the web page in which I need the steps, it causes my browser to crash. Taking me hours for 4 steps. Here is my dilemma. I need the timeline to stop, wait for the user to input text, hit enter, then timeline begin if "correct". If not correct, I need an incorrect state to show telling them what to type. If "correct", timeline plays and auto advances to the next slide. What isn't happening for me is...

1. Timeline is not stopping waiting for the text entry and key press

2. I don't know how to define the value of the text entry box to determine if it's correct or not

3. Until I figure 1 and 2 out, I can't move on to the next step of showing correct or incorrect feedback states.

Are there any video's, sample files, etc that can show me how to build a simulation without screen recording and without using the "freeform" quiz slides? If this requires Javascript programming, I'm doomed!

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi Nadja!

I'm not sure what you mean by the timeline is not waiting for the text entry, but it sounds like you may be putting everything on the base slide and perhaps layers would work better for you.

I put together a rough example of a slide with a hidden next button until the text entry is completed, and there is feedback provided. Hopefully this will get you headed in the right direction.
