SL 2: Custom colors in pattern fill not saving

Sep 24, 2014

Hello!

I am having an issue with SL 2 saving my custom colors when using a pattern fill. Weird thing is, the preview looks correct and other shapes with a solid fill and text are maintaining the color I used.  My shapes filled with a pattern fill in a custom color do not save when I close SL and re-open.  I have opened other files and the pattern fill colors are doing the same thing.

I have reinstalled (and then rebooted my computer) with no luck. Thinking that maybe it was an issue with my file that I had started in SL 1, I tested it by opening a new SL 2 document and filling a shape with a pattern in one of my custom colors. I closed SL, re-opened it, and the color had substituted to a default royal-ish blue color as it had done previously.

Anyone have any thoughts on a way to fix this or is it a bug in SL 2?  I've attached a screen shot so you can see the preview of the slide vs the actual slide.

Many thanks!

Hi, Ashley.

Thanks for the reply. I've attached four slides of the project I've been working on - started in SL 1. (I'm now working in SL 2.)

The thumbnails in the preview are showing the correct colors. I used a custom aqua (RGB 0/165/181), gray (RGB 88/89/91) and red (RGB 190/30/45).  When I open a slide though, the color has substituted to a standard blue in the SL palette of colors.  This issue is only happening with pattern fills using custom colors - on all slides I've opened in SL 2.

Thanks for looking into this.

Hi Fawn,

Thanks for sharing the file - and I see what you're referring to.

When you set this up within SL1 - did you add it as a custom color, or just apply it for each individual item? It looks like I'm able to set that up as a custom color within this file and apply it to your project.

I tested this in my own SL1 files - and set up the images and such with the pattern fill using the same colors as you had as a custom color - and those ones appear normally for me when upgrading that project to SL2.

Can you confirm that you're working on local project files as described here?

Hi, Ashley.

I'm still not having any luck.

In my SL 1 files, I added the colors to custom colors, and I did the same in SL 2.  I've also always saved my files to a network drive in SL 1, with no problems.

I just tested the file by changing a pattern filled shape to a custom color and saved the file to my hard drive. I closed SL, and upon re-open, the color of the shape had still not saved to my custom color.  Frustrating!  Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Ashley,

I made a new color theme with my three custom colors to see if the pattern fills would retain the colors that way, and that worked in the sense that the theme colors that were applied via accent 1, accent 2, etc. stayed.  But in the end, it applied one color to everything, and when I chose my custom colors from the swatches, my shapes did not retain my changes. Instead, it went back to the theme color that was applied through the accent 1, accent 2, etc. choices.

Also, I tried one of the SL default themes, and the shapes did not retain any of those colors either.  Again, the thumbnails in the preview looked correct, but then when I opened one of the slides to edit, everything was the blue it keeps defaulting to.

I did another uninstall and re-install again.  No luck either.

Thanks.

Ashley,

Both.  I had my co-worker test all of this on his computer, and he got the same results. The thumbnails are correct, but what we're seeing on the slides as we edit keep defaulting to blue.  He had issues with duplicating slides too. He had an orange rectangle with a pattern fill, and when he duplicated the slide, the rectangle turned blue on the duplicated slide.

I will try the repair and report back. Thanks!

Thanks Fawn for sharing that recording here and I see that John was able to replicate the issues you were having when taking a look at your file and shared the following:

We have reviewed your project files and we were able to duplicate your issue. I have submitted your case to our Quality Assurance team for their review. As a workaround you can try doing the following below:

1) After setting the correct color on your shape with a pattern fill, right click on the shape and choose "save as picture".
2) You can set the original shape to not visible by using the option on the timeline panel or you can delete the shape altogether.
3) Insert the image saved in step 1 to replace the hidden/deleted shape.

I cannot offer a time frame for when or if this issue will be resolved so please continue to take advantage of the workaround if you encounter this issue in the future.
