"Slide background fill" option slowing down Storyline

Feb 26, 2018

Hi anyone.

I'm working on a slide which is supposed to play as follows:

There is a workflow image set as the background, which is subsequently greyed out (w/ a semi-transparent rectangle). As the steps are enumerated, the relevant portions of the image are highlighted by another rectangle, which i've set as "Slide background fill", so it basically removes the transparent shape around the step being described.

I've done this several times before, but lately I notice that Storyline seems to be overwhelmed w/ the amount of data necessary for this slide. It is slowing down significantly everytime I add a new shape w/ the "Slide background fill" option selected, which is causing problems when I'm trying to make adjustments. SL reacts so slowly to everything that I'm not always sure if the adjustment I've made even works until 10 seconds later, when I may find out, for example, that I've grabbed & resized the wrong shape.

I don't know if there is a workaround or anything for this; it's not really an error, more of an irritating flaw, but I've never come accross it before & was wondering if anyone has found a way to overcome this.

Thanks.

Hey there Nate! Thanks for reaching out to us about this.

I'm going to try and recreate this slow behavior on my end. Are you using the latest version of Storyline 360 and working from your local hard drive?

Also, if you have a sample slide you can share with me, that would be even better! You can click here and attach the file to a new thread comment. Look for the Add Attachment button.

Hi Alyssa; thanks for getting back to me.

So far as I know, I have the most recent update of SL. I updated it last week, perhaps late the week before. & yes, I'm working from my local hard drive.

I will include the offending slide; I've extracted it from the rest of the presentation, as it is the only one giving me any issue.

Thanks again.

Thanks, Nate. I'm seeing the same slow behavior you're seeing. I can definitely feel your pain!

I did some digging, and I found that our team has already discovered this issue, and they're looking into a fix as we speak. I'll be sure to keep you updated on any progress we make.

Thanks again for bringing this up, and I'm sorry for the headaches it's causing you!

Hey, Nate! I wanted to circle back here to let you know that we released another update for Articulate 360 ☺️

This update includes a fix for the issue in Storyline 360 where it would potentially become sluggish after filling shapes with pictures or the slide background.

You can take advantage of this fix by updating your software to the latest version. Thanks again for reaching out about this, and do let us know if you have any questions!
