slide layers not graying out completely

Aug 04, 2014

I've got a slide which has 3 layers after the home slide. Each layer will be identical except for the following:

  1. the content in the left text box will change in each layer
  2. two of the three globes will be grayed out on each layer (different set each time)
  3. flags will appear on the colored globe for that layer and triggers are attached to each flag

I'm using states to change the information in the text box when the user hovers over the flags - that works fine.

The only thing that is not appearing/working correctly are the two grayed out globes on each layer (number 2 above).

When clicking on a particular globe, the text box changes (working), flags appear (working), and the other two globes become gray (not working).

In the gear settings for each layer, I have Dim non-selected layers checked and Hide other layers checked as well.

Any ideas on what I'm missing?

The greyed out effect you see in Slide View when you view/edit a specific layer will not be shown in preview or published view. I would simply replace the hotpots on the Europe layer with semi-transparent objects. This way to kill two birds with one stone; 1.show the other two globes greyed out and 2. keep them clickable. See attached a quick example.

Linda,

Michael has a great solution. Another idea that I've used a lot is to copy the objects to each layer, as you've done, and then use Storyline's Recolor tool (upper-left corner under the Format menu) to change the objects to grayscale. You only need two grayscale globes on each layer. Let the currently selected globe (the colored one) remain on the base layer. So, for example, on the Europe layer, you only need two globes: Asia and America. Recolor each of these to grayscale. I've attached an example.

Like Michael said, you can get rid of the hotspots altogether and just make each globe clickable.
